OGUN: PDP calls for replacement of returning officer

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has demanded that Prof Kayode Adebowale, the state Returning Officer for the governorship election, be replaced.

Kayode Bamgbose, the state PDP Deputy Chairman, has asked Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to conduct a rerun in some parts of the state and replace Adebowale.

Bamgbose, who spoke at a press conference in Abeokuta, the state capital, yesterday, accused security agencies and INEC of colluding.

Expressing optimism of victory in the long run, the party called on its teeming supporters to remain calm and focused, saying necessary legal means would be deployed to claim its “stolen mandate”.

The position of the Ogun PDP comes after its first meeting of key party members since the election, in which Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner.

The PDP’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, his deputy, Adekunle Akinlade, and state executive members of the party were present for a postmortem of the exercise.

While expressing dissatisfaction with the election results, the party suggested that constitutional remedies be investigated as a possible solution.
