Ayu heads to Court as PDP appoints acting Chair after suspension

THE national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, was suspended on Sunday and stated yesterday that he will challenge his suspension before the Benue State High Court in Makurdi.

This was confirmed by Simon Imobo-tswam, Ayu’s Special Assistant on Communication, who stated that his boss will file a legal challenge to the court order.

This is coming after, the PDP yesterday named Umar Damagum, the deputy national chairman for the north, as the acting national chairman in accordance with the court’s ruling.

Recall that the Igorov ward executive committee in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State suspended Ayu from the Party on Sunday due to alleged anti-party activities and for failing to pay his membership dues.

The Benue court further prohibited Ayu from impersonating the party chairman after the suspension.

The lawsuit was brought by Conrad Utaan, a former aide to Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State.

The Benue court case, which has been postponed till April 17 for a hearing, listed Ayu and the PDP as the first and second respondents, respectively.

The development saw Ayu step aside pending the ruling of the court.
