FCT: I regret not wooing Aduda to APC before ‘tsunami of the Labour Party’

THE Senate Minority Leader, Philip Aduda, was extended an invitation to join the ruling All Progressives Congress yesterday in Abuja by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Mohammed Bello, who expressed regret that the five-term lawmaker had been defeated in his bid for reelection at the February 25, 2023, National Assembly elections by the “tsunami of the Labour Party.”

Ireti Kingibe of the LP defeated PDP candidate Aduda in the race for reelection as a lawmaker representing the FCT in the upper legislative chamber.

“As a result of the tsunami of the Labour Party of the past few weeks which made Aduda to lose his seat of the past 12 years, I do hope that he considers aligning with the APC ,” Bello said during Friday’s Sallah homage to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja.

The FCT minister stated that he tried unsuccessfully to persuade Aduda to join the APC.

He asserted that the Senate Minority Leader ought to join the APC after losing his seat to the LP in the face of strong opposition and failing to succeed in getting the Abuja Mayoral Bill passed.

“I want to say that Senator Aduda has been a bridge builder even though he is from the other party, he has been extremely supportive to FCT administration under the guidance of the Senate President.

“The only regret I have as a minister is the fact that I have not been able to convince Senator Aduda to leave that party to join us in the APC.

“But as a result of the tsunami of the Labour Party of the past few weeks which made Aduda lose his seat of the past12 years, I do hope that he will consider aligning with the APC,” Bello said.
