‘Amazing hold-up play’: Forest fans hail Awoniyi for role in victory over Brighton

SUPER Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has received praise from Nottingham Forest fans following their crucial Premier League victory over Brighton last night.

Forest came from behind to beat the high-flying Seagulls 3-1, with Awoniyi playing for 80 minutes and assisting the second goal.

The result not only ended a run of 11 games without a win, it also took Forest out of the relegation zone, and the fans appreciated the Nigeria international on social media afterwards.

“Taiwo Awoniyi is in the top 10 number 9s in the league. Not even a debate. #NFFC,” a Forest YouTuber, who goes by
@LJPYT, wrote.

Paul Taylor, another Forest supporter, praised Awoniyi’s hard work in playing the lone striker role.

“Awoniyi comes off to be replaced by Ayew in the 81st minute. He’s put a heck of a shift in tonight,” he wrote.

Another fan, Justyn, reckons that Awoniyi’s presence makes a positive difference to how Forest play.

“We look a lot better with him in the side – Awoniyi, not Ayew,” he wrote.

“That’s what happens when you pass the ball well. Amazing hold-up play from Awoniyi. Back in it,” Callum Castel added.

James Tumilty acknowledges Awoniyi’s impact and prays for the Nigerian, who had a long injury spell this season, to stay fit and lead Forest to safety.

“A lot of deserved praise going around after last night, but one man who seems to be a little bit overlooked is Awoniyi,” he wrote.

“The way he changes how we play, adding that target up top and something to play off has been great. Hopefully he stays fit for the run in. #NFFC.”

Awoniyi has registered four goals and one assist this season for Forest, who are 17th, one point clear of the relegation places.
