THE abducted Federal Commissioner with the National Population Commission (NPC), Gloria Izonfuo, has regained her freedom after spending five days in captivity.
Izonfuo, a former Head of Service in Bayelsa State was abducted by gunmen at the Ogbakiri junction in Emuoha Local Government Area along the East-West Road in Rivers State while returning from a trip in Brass, Bayelsa state on Sunday, April 22. The gunmen whisked her away alongside her driver and maid.
Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed her release on Friday morning.
“Yes, she was released this morning (Friday). An investigation is still ongoing to apprehend the kidnappers and make them face justice,” Iringe-Koko said.
Asked if Izonfuo’s driver and maid were freed alongside, the PPRO in a terse response said, “I will get back to you on that.”
However, it could not be ascertained if any ransom was paid.
