‘Play with all your heart’: Peseiro fires up Golden Eaglets for U-17 AFCON

SUPER Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has sent a message of encouragement to the Golden Eaglets as they begin their U-17 Africa Cup of Nations campaign today.

The Nigerian lads will open their quest for a third U-17 AFCON trophy when they face Zambia this evening at the Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine, Algeria.

The Group B opener will kick off at 5pm Nigerian time, with the other teams in the group, South Africa and Morocco, clashing at the same venue from 8pm.

Peseiro has been monitoring Nigeria’s age-grade teams and spent time in Egypt to watch the Flying Eagles at the U-20 AFCON earlier in the year.

The Portuguese coach has wished the Golden Eaglets the best and charged them to give their all in Nigeria’s cause.

“Best of luck to the Nigerian U-17 team as they kick off their Africa Cup of Nations campaign! Make your country proud and play with all your heart.
#U17AFCON #GoldenEaglets,” Peseiro wrote on Twitter today.

The Eaglets have won the continental competition twice — in 2001 and 2007 — and they reached the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup both times.

The top four teams from the African tournament in Algeria will qualify for the U-17 World Cup, which the Eaglets have won a record five times, the last triumph coming in 2015 in Chile.
