C’RIVER: Ayade declares curfew in communities over communal clash

THE Cross River State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade has imposed with immediate effect, a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the local governments of Oyonum and Ofatura in Cross Rivers.

This occurred amid hostility and persistent conflicts between the two communities.

In a statement today, Christian Ita, the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity, said the state administration had instructed the state’s security forces to ensure the curfew’s tight enforcement.

Governor Ben Ayade imposed a 6am to 6pm curfew on both communities with immediate effect.

“His Excellency, the Governor hereby directs security agencies in the state to ensure the strict enforcement of the curfew,” the governor was quoted as saying.

“The governor decries the destruction of lives and property in the renewed clashes, and vows that government will bring to book, all those behind the clashes.”
