Navy cautions pirates to steer clear of Nigerian waterways

THE Flag Officer in Charge of the Eastern Naval Command, rear Adm. Olusola Oluwagbire, has issued a warning to sea pirates operating in the waterways to stay out of the area or prepare to be put out of business by force.

Oluwagbire issued the warning yesterday during his first review of the Naval Command’s base and units at NNS Jubilee in the Ikot Abasi Local Government Area.

“We are coming to smoke sea pirates out of the waterways, we will get them and we will roast them,” the FOC said while speaking with newsmen during the inspection.

Additionally, the FOC stated that he is on the ground informing all of the units of what is happening in his command.

He urged the commander to reorganize the command’s operations and make sure that the boats are deployed appropriately to provide effective coverage of the waterways.

The FOC, who urged the command to remain vigilant as they always have, urged the public to provide the command with relevant information that would be helpful in identifying and apprehending the criminal elements in the community.

“There is one aspect of security that most people don’t understand, it is not only the security agency’s business but its everybody’s business.

“If you see something, share with the security agencies, so that it can help better the society. We are together, we will do it and make the waterways safe and better,” Oluwagbire said.

The highlights of visit was inspection of Forward Operating Base, Ibaka, Mbo LGA, proposed Naval Barracks, Essene, Ikot Abasi LGA, Nigerian Navy Military School, Ikot Ntuen and the newly acquired Girls Model Secondary School at Awa Ubium in Onna LGA and Utaewa, an out post station in Ikot Abasi LGA.
