VICTOR Osimhen has broken yet another record in a remarkable season, surpassing George Weah as the most prolific African to ever play in Serie A.
The Nigeria international scored Napoli’s only goal in their 1-0 victory over Fiorentina tonight, taking his tally in Serie A to 47 goals in his three seasons in Italy, one more than Weah netted in the league.
Osimhen struck from the penalty spot in the 74th minute to take his total this season to 23 in the Italian top flight.
Incidentally, the Super Eagles striker missed an earlier penalty in the match, seeing his 48th minute attempt from the spot saved by Fiorentina goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.
The win extended Napoli’s lead at the top of the standings to 17 points over second-placed Juventus, who beat Lazio 2-0 earlier today.
Osimhen already broke Samuel Eto’o’s record for the most goals by an African in Serie with his 22nd strike last in midweek.
Napoli are already champions after the 1-1 draw at Udinese last Thursday, when Osimhen scored their crucial equaliser.
