LIONEL Messi’s father Jorge, who is also one of the superstar’s representatives, has denied a report that his son has agreed a move to Saudi Arabia.
AFP reported today, citing sources close to the negotiations, that the Argentina captain had sealed a ‘huge’ deal to move to the Saudi Arabia Pro League at the end of the current campaign.
However, in a swift reaction, Jorge has refuted the claim, insisting that his son has not decided on his next move.
“There’s absolutely NOTHING agreed with any club for next season. We will decide at the end of the season,” he said in an official statement posted on social media hours after the news broke.
“Nothing is signed, agreed or verbally agreed. Only fake news using Leo’s name.
“I can guarantee that nothing will be agreed, decided or signed before the end of the current season.”
Messi’s current contract with Paris Saint-Germain will end in June and he will become a free agent at the end of the month, two years after joining the French champions.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who also scooped the Laureus Sportsman of the Year award last night, is reportedly considering a return to Barcelona, where he spent 15 successful years, becoming their all-time top scorer and winning multiple La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles.
