A decomposed body of an unidentified person was discovered inside the premises of a popular secondary school in Ilorin, Kwara State’s capital.
Channels TV learned that the discovery was uncovered last week at Ilorin Grammar School in the vicinity of Garin Alimi, leaving school officials perplexed about the circumstances surrounding the inexplicable death.
According to reports, some students cutting grass as part of the school’s labor activity discovered “a decomposed leg” before raising the alarm.
Ms Muslimat Abdullahi, principal of IGS (Senior), told newsmen over the phone yesterday night that “after the student informed us, we discovered it was a male body that was already decomposing.”
She described the institution as “very large,” adding that the body was discovered behind a fence “very far from the classrooms or administrative block.”
“We reported immediately and wrote the Ministry of Education, copied the teaching service commission and informed the police that later came to evacuate it,” she said.
According to Abdullahi, nobody noticed the odor until it was detected.
“We immediately reported it and wrote the Ministry of Education, copied the teaching service commission, and informed the police who later came to evacuate it,” she explained.
According to a police officer who talked to newsmen on the condition of anonymity, the corpse belonged to one of the cultists who were shot during a recent cult war in the state and died while attempting to flee.
When called, Ajayi Okasanmi (SP), the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kwara State, confirmed the event.
“Yes, they alerted the police about it and when our men got there, they saw that the body had spent days in the bush and was already decomposing. But we are still investigating,” he said.
