Lille set to make bid for Gift Orban

LILLE are showing keen interest in Nigerian youngster Gift Orban and could make a firm bid in the coming days, according to reports.

The 20-year-old striker has been in red-hot scoring form since joining Gent from Norway’s Stabaek in January, and he has been linked with a number of clubs.

He has scored 20 goals in 20 matches for Gent in the Belgian Pro League and the UEFA Europa Conference League, making him one of the most prolific young players in Europe in 2023.

According to European football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Lille have shown the most interest in Orban out of the several clubs who have been monitoring the striker.

Indeed, the French club have begun contacts with Orban’s representatives with a view to sealing the move in the summer.

It is believed that Lille are looking to replace striker Jonathan David with Orban, with the former set to leave the club.

If the Lille move sails through, Orban would become the third Nigerian to play for the former French champions in recent years, following in the footsteps of former Super Eagles goalkeeper and captain Vincent Enyeama and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Orban said in a recent interview that his ambition was to play in a bigger league that Belgium’s but insisted he would not force a move.
