THE president of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih Esq, has become a council member of the sport’s continental governing body.
Orbih was elected as a council member into the Badminton Confederation Africa at the world congress that took place today in Kualar Lumpur, Malaysia.
He had earlier contested for a two-year term in 2021 but lost.
However, this time he won and bagged a four-year tenure instead of the shorter one he had lost.
Orbih promised that with his victory, Nigeria is back in the boardroom where decisions about the administration of the game of badminton in Africa are taken.
”Nigeria will definitely have a more important voice in influencing positively such decision-making,” he said after his big victory.
Also during today’s election, Tukebana Michel Bau of Seychelles retained his position as the BCA president.
He was returned unopposed, while Zambia’s Kingsley Mulenga defeated the incumbent Amine Zobiri of Algeria in the Deputy President race.
Botswana’s Mpiwa Bosenogile defeated the incumbent Mrs Chipo Zumbrani of Zimbabwe to become the treasurer.
Eleven members out of 21 contestants were elected into the council.
