A few EFCC employees were prevented today from entering the anti-corruption agency’s building.
The Department of State Services (DSS) representatives reportedly invaded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office in Lagos, claiming ownership of the structure at No. 15A Awolowo Road.
According to sources who did not want their names published, the DSS officials came into Lagos yesterday and parked on the road leading to the EFCC building.
It was reported that EFCC employees carried out their tasks quietly thinking that the DSS agents were present to keep the peace as a result of yesterday’s inauguration.
It was however revealed that the men from the DSS allegedly moved into the premises after the EFCC personnel closed from work yesterday to prevent them from entering when they returned today.
“The DSS even parked two armored personnel carrier outside the gate and took over our premises to prevent us from entering our offices,” an official of the commission said.
Furthermore, according to information gathered there had previously been a rivalry between the two organizations, with the DSS claiming possession of the structure.
The DSS allegedly threatened and restrained the EFCC when the anti-graft commission attempted to paint the building’s walls in the EFCC’s colors recently.
As of the time this report was filed, EFCC officials could be seen loitering around outside of their buildings while the DSS has remained firmly in possession of the EFCC’s sealed offices.
The DSS on the other hand claims that it is only using its own facility to carry out its official and legal obligations.
