NPFL play-offs: Draws galore as Insurance extend unbeaten run

ALL the three matches today in the Nigeria Premier Football League Super 6 championship play-offs ended in draws, with Bendel Insurance stretching their remarkable unbeaten run to 21 games.

The matchday 3 schedule opened with a 1-1 draw between Enyimba and Insurance, with Remo Stars versus Sunshine Stars ending in the same scoreline and Rivers United against Lobi Stars finishing in a 0-0 stalemate.

In the first fixture of the day at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Enyimba scored first before Insurance fought back to maintain their ‘invincible’ status, stretching back to the abridged season.

Sadiq Abubakar gave eight-time champions Enyimba the lead in the 23rd minute but Divine Nwachukwu pulled Insurance level to earn the Benin Arsenal their third straight draw in the play-offs.

Enyimba are on top of the standings with five points, ahead of Rivers United on goals scored.

Insurance are fourth with three points, level on points with Remo Stars in third on goals scored.

Remo Stars drew first blood in the South West derby through Samuel Anaekwe in the 12th minute while Lucky Emmanuel equalised for Sunshine Stars two minutes into the second half as the Akure side secured their second draw.

Champions Rivers United could not earn the victory that would have taken them above Enyimba as bottom side Lobi Stars held them to a 0-0 draw in the night kick-off.
