Buhari squandered $19bn on non-functional refineries – Gov Sule

THE Nasarawa state Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari lavished over $19 billion on Nigeria’s refineries with no discernible impact.

The Governor said that the funds required to repair Nigeria’s refinery were used to construct the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.

Recall that the federal government owns three refineries in Port Harcourt, River State, Warri, Delta State, and Kaduna, but none of them are operational at the time.

Governor Sule stated this on ChannelsTv’s premier morning show, Sunrise Daily, that the massive amounts disbursed did not produce the desired results.

The Governor also noted that the Dangote refinery is 1.5 times the size of Nigeria’s three refineries and challenged the government for failing to perform a good job.

Sule went on to say that whereas Nigeria’s three refineries (if operational) have a total capacity of 450,000 barrels per day, Dangote’s facility has a capacity of 650,000 barrels.

He faulted Buhari’s administration for failing to set priorities, saying that his administration should have focused on making one refinery operational rather than attempting to rehabilitate all three at the same time.
