Cyriel Dessers set to join Rangers from Cremonese

CYRIEL Dessers is on the verge of completing a switch to Rangers of Scotland from Italy’s Cremonese after both clubs agreed a deal for the Super Eagles striker.

Sky Sports reported that the clubs reached an agreement in principle last night after it had appeared that the deal was going nowhere.

The Nigeria international, who scored 10 goals in Belgium and Italy last season, has been a key target for Rangers manager Michael Beale, and is set to be the club’s sixth summer signing.

Sky Sports added that although the deal has not been sealed, the 30-year-old Nigerian should complete his move to Ibrox following an unsuccessful first bid in June.

If the deal is successful as expected, Dessers will be joining Abdallah Sima, Sam Lammers, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell as Rangers’ new signings for the season.

Dessers will also become the third Super Eagles star to join Rangers in recent seasons following Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey, who both left last year.

Rangers are still keen to add another striker to their squad and are interested in Feyenoord striker Danilo.

Dessers joined Cremonese from Genk for €6m last August and scored seven goals in 29 appearances as the club got relegated from Serie A.

He had scored three goals in the Belgian top flight at the beginning of the campaign before making the switch.
