NIGER: Armed robbers attack Minna Emir’s palace

ARMED robbers attacked the palace of the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, this evening shooting two guards.

Reports reveal that one of the palace’s staff members who was ordered to the bank to acquire some cash was followed by the gunmen.

The Emir was in the palace as gunmen fired irregularly to scare people away before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash belonging to the Minna Emirate.

Information gathered also reveals that two of the injured royal guards were transferred to Minna General Hospital for treatment.

An eyewitness who did not want his identity to be disclosed revealed that the robbers overwhelmed the vigilantes in the palace after a gun duel.

When contacted, DSP Wasiu Abiodun of the Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer verified the event but stated that the intruders did not gain access to the palace.

He noted that a gang of five armed robbers followed Minna Palace cashier in a Toyota Camry vehicle from a commercial bank where he went to withdraw money.

Abiodun said, “He was blocked at the palace gate, and the robbers fired some gunshots in the air, while they forcefully took the money from him and escaped from the scene.”

He added that the cashier was being questioned at the Police Area Command office in Minna to find out the details of the occurrence.

Niger is one one the states in the North Central area currently experiencing a surge in troubling incidences.
