ZAMFARA: Four policemen killed in fresh bandits attack

ARMED bandits murdered four police officers yesterday night in Zamfara State’s Bungudu Local Government Area.

The armed bandits were said to have attacked and started shooting at the officers as they were approaching a checkpoint along the Bungudu-Gusau Road.

ASP Yazid Abubakar, a spokesman for the Zamfara State Police Command, confirmed the recent attack Channels Television this morning.

Abubakar was unable to confirm whether any police officers were killed in the attack but promised to follow up with more details.

Ibrahim Bungudu, a local of Bungudu town, however confirmed the deaths of four cops.

He said that one person was also shot by the rampaging bandits in Tagero village, which is located in Bungudu Local Government Area’s (LGA) Furfuri region.

Bungudu added that several cattle belonging to residents of Tagero village were also rustled away by the bandits.

“The bandits ambushed the police along Gusau-Bungudu road close to Nabature company and killed four. They also rustled many cattle at Tagero village under Furfuri district, one person was shot in the hand in the village,” he said.

Another resident of Bungudu town, Usman Bungudu, also verified the attack.

He said, around midnight, the bandits ambushed the cops who were on duty at checkpoints and killed four of them.

“The incident happened around 12 am when the policemen mounted a checkpoint along Gusau road. The bandits just ambushed and shot at them; they ran away after killing four policemen,” he said.
