NOVAK Djokovic has become the first player in history to reach 35 Grand Slam singles finals after beating Jannik Sinner in the men’s semi-final at Wimbledon today.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion overcame Italy’s Sinner in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 to ease into his ninth Wimbledon final.
Djokovic, 36, has now reached more major finals than any player, man or woman, in tennis history.
Meanwhile, Ons Jabeur will continue her quest for a first women’s singles Grand Slam title after reaching tomorrow’s final.
The Tunisian came back from 2-4 in the second set yesterday to beat Aryna Sabalenka 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to back-to-back Wimbledon finals.
Jabeur has now reached the final in three of the last five Grand Slams.
She will face Marketa Vondrousova tomorrow after the unseeded Czech upset Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-final.
Vondrousova is the first-ever unseeded player to reach the women’s singles final at Wimbledon and will be aiming to stop Jabeur from being the first African and Arab champion.
