Man United agree €55m deal for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana

MANCHESTER United and Inter Milan have reached an agreement for goalkeeper Andre Onana after several weeks of negotiations.

Reports in England and Italy today claimed that the Premier League club will pay the Serie A side €55m (€51m guaranteed plus €4m in add-ons) for the Cameroon goalkeeper.

Onana will replace David De Gea, who left Manchester United on a free transfer this month after 12 years at the club.

Ex-Ajax goalkeeper Onana will be reunited with his former boss Erik ten Hag, who joined Manchester United as manager last year and led them to success in the Carabao Cup, their first trophy in six years.

Onana is expected to arrival in England tonight and sign a five-year contract tomorrow or on Thursday after undergoing the mandatory medical tests.

The 27-year-old has spent just one season at Inter Milan and was instrumental in their run to Coppa Italia triumph and their first UEFA Champions League final since 2010, although he could not stop Manchester City from winning 1-0.

Onana spent seven-and-a-half years at Ajax before the switch to Inter Milan in July 2022 on a free transfer after serving a FIFA ban for the use of prohibited substances.

He kept eight clean sheets in 24 Serie A appearances as Inter finished third and he kept eight clean sheets in eight of the side’s 13 matches in the Champions League last season — the most of any goalkeeper in the competition.

Onana will be United’s second signing of the summer after the arrival of midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea for €60m.
