PSG put Mbappe up for sale, drop star from Japan tour

PARIS Saint-Germain have decided to sell their star player Kylian Mbappe and left him out of their pre-season tour of Japan.

The French champions have put the forward up for sale this summer in order to prevent him from leaving as a free agent in 2024, reports from across Europe have claimed.

Last month, Mbappe told the club that he would not take up the option of a one-year contract extension next year but was willing to remain in the French capital and leave on a free transfer.

However, PSG will now reportedly listen to offers for the 24-year-old forward after the president Nasser Al-Khelaifi insisted the France international must sign a contract extension or leave the club.

PSG are believed to be unhappy with Mbappe, who they bought from Monaco in 2018 for €180m as they believe he has already agreed a free transfer with Real Madrid.

According to reports, Mbappe is yet to respond to Al-Khelaifi and has been excluded from manager Luis Enrique’s squad that is due to travel to Japan for a pre-season tour.

“My position is very clear. I don’t want to repeat it all the time. If Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract,” Al-Khelaifi said earlier this month.

“We don’t want to lose the best player in the world on a free. That’s impossible. He had said that he would never leave on a free. It’s not my fault that he’s changed his mind now. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free. That’s very clear.”

Even with the situation and the fact that he has only one year left in his contract, Mbappe would still cost a huge amount in transfer fee and wages, given his status as one of the world’s best players.

Although Premier League clubs Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been linked with the Qatar 2022 World Cup top scorer in the past, Real Madrid appears his most likely destination.

Mbappe made possibly his final appearance for PSG in a friendly against Le Havre yesterday, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 victory.

He has registered an astonishing 212 goals and 98 assists in 260 appearances for PSG.

In Japan, PSG will face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr and Cerezo Osaka in Osaka next week before taking on Inter Milan in Tokyo on August 1 and South Korean side Jeonbuk Motors two days later.
