TROOPS from the Nigeria Army’s 302 Regiment, operating under the 82 Division, have destroyed camps belonging to fighters of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network, in Oroma and Umuewelum Anam in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In a statement, Brigadier Onyema, Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, said the troops raided the identified camps yesterday, in an effort to curb the illicit activities of the fighters in the communities, adding that the troops recovered one AK 47 rifle, one AKMS rifle, three Lexus SUVs, and two motorcycles during the operation.
According to the statement, the military also apprehended eight brigands, during the operation.
In a separate operation, troops raided the IPOB camp at Mmiata Anam in Anambra South and came into contact with the irredentist group, neutralizing one IPOB fighter while capturing another alive, and recovering one AK-47 rifle, one dane gun, and police uniforms.
The Nigerian Army has urged all law-abiding citizens, particularly the good and entrepreneurial people of the South East, to continue to support and collaborate with the troops and other security agencies in their efforts to put an end to the problem that has bedeviled the region.
