CAF Champions League: Enyimba, Remo Stars draw Libyan, Ghanaian opponents

NIGERIAN champions Enyimba and runners-up Remo Stars will be facing opponents from Libya and Ghana in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Enyimba finished first in the Nigeria Premier Football League championship play-offs last month to emerge as champions for a record-extending ninth time, while Remo Stars clinched second place and a first-ever CAF Champions League ticket.

The CAF Champions League draw held today pitted 2003 and 2004 winners Enyimba against Libya’s Ahli Benghazi, while Remo Stars are up against Ghana’s Medeama Sports Club.

Ahli Benghazi finished as runners-up to Al Ahli Tripoli in the Libyan Premier League last season while Medeama are Ghana’s current champions.

Both Enyimba and Remo Stars will play the first legs away, with the matches fixed for between August 18 and August 27.

If Enyimba overcome Ahli Benghazi, they will play Benin Republic’s Coton or ASEC Mimosa of Cote d’Ivoire in the second round, while Remo Stars will have Horoya of Guinea waiting for them.
