Messi scores again for Inter Miami as jerseys sell out

LIONEL Messi played a starring role again for Inter Miami in the early hours of today, scoring twice and making an assist as they defeated Atlanta United 4-0 in a Leagues Cup clash in Miami.

The Argentina captain has now scored three goals in his first two Inter Miami appearances, today’s brace adding to the last-gasp free-kick he netted on his debut in the 2-1 win against Cruz Azul on Saturday.

Messi was making his first start today having been a substitute against Cruz Azul, and his impact was instant.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner struck in the eighth minute to open the scoring and made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute.

Robert Taylor extended the advantage to 3-0 just before half-time as Inter Milan took a three-goal lead into the break for the first time in their history.

Messi was involved in Inter Miami’s fourth too, the 36-year-old setting up Taylor in the 53rd minute before leaving the pitch to resounding applause 25 minutes later.

Meanwhile, Messi’s No.10 Inter Miami jerseys have sold out and demand is outpacing supply.

According to Marca, Inter Miami fans will have to wait until November to get the Argentine superstar’s shirts.

Inter Miami’s jersey sales have increased massively, which is good news to Adidas, who recently signed a 10-year contract valued at $830 million dollars to supply all of Major League Soccer teams with uniforms until 2030.

The authentic version of the Inter Miami jersey is currently selling for $195 in the team’s online shop but Adidas is struggling to keep up with the supply as ‘Messimania’ sweeps across America.

FOX Sports reported that Billy Lalor, director of sports marketing at Sports Endeavors, said that demand for Inter Miami jerseys soared 25 times, with Messi’s No.10 being sold out.

Messi is reportedly on a $50 million per season deal with Inter Miami and has a share of profits from the MLS’ deal with Apple TV+, and from jersey sales.
