A new push to invest in the nation’s youths and their potential has been made in the wake of the Falcons and the D’Tigresses’ recent laudable performances in international competitions.
The Labour Party’s (LP) nominee who ran for president on February 25, 2023, Peter Obi, is leading this call and believes in the value of fostering and enhancing the innate skills of young people in Nigeria.
The former governor of Anambra State cited the advancement made by the women’s national team at the World Cup and the victory of the D’Tigress at the Afrobasket in a statement released through his official X handle, highlighting the significance of offering youths the necessary platforms and infrastructure to support their success in their chosen fields.
Obi commended the teams and said that the country is pleased with their accomplishments. He emphasized that youth development will be a key component of the New Nigeria, to which all Nigerians look forward.
“We must build a nation where our many talented youths will be free to develop their skills in many areas of endeavour and have opportunities to offer their skills to the global market and the development of our nation,” Obi tweeted.
He further opined that the D’Tigress and the Super Falcons have proven again that Nigerian youths are highly talented and can compete favourably on the global stage with the right training and opportunities.
“We will make it happen because it is POssible,” the LP presidential candidate stressed.
“I will like to congratulate our female National Basketball team, D’Tigress @DtigressNG who emerged as the champions of Africa for the fourth consecutive time in the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket championship.
“We are proud of what they have accomplished and happy with the victory they brought to the nation.I appreciate them for their sacrifices and years of training which pushed them to victory.
“To the coach, Rena Wakama, who just etched her name in the books of history as the firstfemale coach to win the competition since its inception in 1966, I celebrate you.
