Rema makes history on Billboard 200 with Raves & Roses

Afrobeat star, Divine Ikubor well known as Rema with his hit single Calm Down is fast becoming Nigeria’s greatest export after breaking multiple international records.

In another giant stride, the singer, songwriter, and rapper, who rose to stardom after releasing the song Dumebi, has set a new record for the longest-charting African album on the Billboard 200 with his debut album Raves & Roses which clocks a historic 30th week on the chart.

The development sees Rema break the previous record held by his fellow Nigerian megastar Wizkid with his RIAA Gold-certified fourth album Made In Lagos. He released the debut album on March 25, 2022, and followed with a new version titled Rave & Roses Ultra on April 28.

The new version contained an additional six tracks: Charm, Hov, Reason YouCalm Down remix with Selena Gomez, Holiday, and Dunno Me. It became the first African album to cross one billion streams on Spotify.

With the success of his global smash hit ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez, Raves & Roses continues to enjoy impressive recognition. The single holds the records of highest charting Nigerian song and the second highest charting African song on the Billboard Hot 100 with a No. 5 peak position. It also holds the record for the longest No. 1 on the Billboard US Afrobeats chart with a record 49 weeks at the top.

As a result of his incredible performances on his Rave & Roses World Tour, The Scoove Africa ranked him the 2023 Best Stage Performer in Nigeria, noting that “the young artiste has stepped up his performance game, inventing the new-school groove catchy anthem “Rema, We wanna parry!”

The international music sensation started his music career in the church with Alpha P. In 2018, he posted a viral freestyle on Instagram to D’Prince’s track Gucci Gang. The post caught the attention of D’Prince who flew him to Lagos to offer a record deal to the young talent in 2019, to sign a deal with his Jonzing World Record.
