SEVERAL Nigerian Air Force planes simultaneously annihilated criminal forces operating in various sections of the country.
This was revealed yesterday in a communique issued by NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet who stated that in the Niger Delta Region, the air strikes were directed at the criminal operations of oil thieves, which have continued to harm the region’s general environment as well as the nation’s oil productivity.
As a follow-up to prior air reconnaissance flights, NAF aircraft under Operation Delta Safe conducted air interdiction missions on 11 August 2023 at an illicit refining plant southwest of Bille, a coastal town in Rivers State’s Degema Local Government Area (LGA).
On the same day, air attacks were also launched against a well-known IPOB camp in Orsumoghu, Ihiala LGA, Anambra State. When the necessity to effectively engage them arose, intelligence revealed that IPOB elements in makeshift camps were observed in preparation for an anticipated attack on innocent citizens.
The strike was later carried out and declared successful.
Similar air attacks were carried out the same day by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai in Arra, a once-deserted terrorist refuge near Sambisa Forest.
Earlier reconnaissance on the site found terrorists massing at a place that had previously been cleared of terrorist activity roughly 6 months ago.
There were strong indications that these terrorists had escaped from areas around Lake Chad after being heavily bombarded by NAF aircraft.
As a result, the east area of Arra was attacked in order to decimate the terrorists and prevent them from staying there and exploiting it as a staging area. Footage of the strike’s aftermath revealed that it was a success, as numerous terrorists were neutralized and structures were demolished, while the few surviving militants were seen scampering away in confusion.
At the end, their ability to attack friendly forces as well as innocent civilians were degraded.
