Appeal Court confirms Abure as Labour party national chairman

THE Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, announced today that the Court of Appeal in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, has confirmed Julius Abure as its National Chairman.

The three-member panel of justices unanimously dismissed the appellant’s appeal.

It will be recalled that the plaintiff, Lucky Shauibu, a member of the Labour Party in Ward 3 Executive in Edo State’s Esan North East Local Government Area, suspended Abure.

In the lead judgment, Justice Theresa Ngolika Orji Abadua upheld the decision of the High Court of Edo State, holding that one man cannot suspend the national chairman of the Labour Party in accordance with Articles 13 and 17 of the Party’s Constitution and the current Electoral Act of 2022, especially when the appellant has been described as unknown by the party.
