‘It’s a dream come true’: Chelsea complete record £115 signing of Caicedo

MOISES Caicedo has expressed happiness after his move to Chelsea from Brighton became official today.

The 21-year-old signed the dotted lines today to become Chelsea’s latest expensive acquisition, with his transfer fee of £115m making him the costliest player in Premier League history, costing even more than his new teammate Enzo Fernandez, who joined from Benfica for £105m in January.

“Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Ecuador international Moises Caicedo,” the club confirmed today on their official website.

“The 21-year-old midfielder has agreed an eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with a club option of a further year, and joins from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.”

Caicedo, who rejected Liverpool after they had agreed a £111m deal with Brighton last week, said he was excited to be at Stamford Bridge.

“I am so happy to join Chelsea! I am so excited to be here at this big club and I didn’t have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club,” he said after completing the move.

“It’s a dream come true to be here and I can’t wait to get started with the team.”

Chelsea co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: “Moises has proved himself as a standout player in European football over the past 18 months, and we are thrilled to add him to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

“Moises possesses a rare midfield skill set and is a player we’ve been targeting for some time. We believe he will make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge this season – and in the years ahead.”

Caicedo joined Brighton in February 2021 for €5m from Ecuador’s Independiente, and made 53 appearances for the English club after spending half a season on loan at Belgian club Beerschot.
