IMO: Govt, PDP chieftain disagree over alleged demolition

THE supposed demolition of a property belonging to a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Imo State, Mike Ikoku, by the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA), has sparked controversy.

Agnes Amawune, the hotel manager who spoke on behalf of the property’s owner, described the incident in which OCDA officers allegedly invaded the hotel with bulldozers.

Amawune stated that the OCDA officials who arrived to tear down the property claimed there was no sufficient documentation for the property, which she denied.

She went on to say that, despite her protests and pleadings, the ferocious-looking government agents destroyed some of the goods, promising to return in 21 days.

Meanwhile, the state government has refuted suggestions that the demolition has a political undertone, stating that it is obvious that the hotel’s owner, a PDP chieftain, erected his property on the Green Verge, which is contrary to the Owerri master plan.
