THE Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) is currently conducting an urgent meeting at its secretariat in Abuja.
The national security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, is also present for the conference.
The agenda given to the governors indicates that the discussions will center on matters of state and national security, even though journalists were not permitted to cover the opening.
Also on the agenda for discussion are a review of the National Executive Council’s agenda, a brief on the new Electricity Act, and President Bola Tinubu’s palliative intervention over fuel subsidies
The meeting is chaired by the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Among the other governors in attendance are Alex Otti of Abia State, Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, and Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State.
The recent murder of at least 21 military personnel, including senior officers, by suspected bandits at Kundu via Zungeru in the Wushishi Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, has once again raised security concerns in the nation.
Following a visit to the troops in Niger State today after the bandits’ attack, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, encouraged them not to allow their morale dwindle but to defend Nigeria and recover the space currently occupied by terrorists and bandits in parts of the country.
