RIVERS: Navy impounds vessel with illegally refined diesel

A vessel with a 350,000 liter capacity believed to be carrying illegally refined diesel has been captured by the Nigerian Navy.

The Motor Vessel Cecilia was impounded by personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder who are involved in the maritime aspect of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS). The diesel on board is believed to be illegally cooked.

According to the Commander of the Maritime Component of Operation Delta Safe, Commodore Adedokun Siyanbade, the operation which happened at Meco jetty in the Trans-Woji area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, was as a result of intelligence and surveillance.

The vessel, which has a carrying capacity of 350,000 liters, serves as a storage tank for the good, according to Commodore Siyanbade.

He continued by promising that everyone participating in the operation would be detained and prosecuted.

The Niger Delta oil infrastructure is being secured by Operation Delta Safe, a Joint Task Force operation.
