THE Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has promised that the House under his leadership will facilitate the establishment of a military base In Zaria, Kaduna State, to assist in curbing the spate of banditry in the area.
This follows the recent resurgence of attacks in Zaria and surrounding communities which has led to several deaths.
While speaking during a condolence visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Nuhu Bamali, over the recent mosque collapse which claimed ten lives, the lawmaker assured that the Federal Government will do everything within its powers to ensure that bandits are flushed out from Zaria and other neighbouring communities.
Speaking in Hausa language at the Emir’s Palace, the Speaker said that the 10th National Assembly is actively implementing measures to prevent the resurgence of banditry and other security concerns in the North West zone and other parts of the country.
“We are here to console the people of Zaria over the unfortunate incident of the collapse of our Jummat Mosque which led to the death of our brothers, and also the recent bandit attacks in some of our communities,” he said Friday.
“We pray that those who lost their lives may find rest with God and may God comfort the bereaved. It’s our sincere prayer that peace reign in Zaria. We have decided that we will establish a military base close to the female college in Zaria. And we are ready to rebuild the mosque as soon as we get the estimated cost.”
