THE Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has charged Bendel Insurance to go for victory in the return leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie with Aso Chlef FC scheduled for Saturday in Algeria.
The Benin Arsenal are off to Algeria for the second leg of the preliminary round tie after winning the first leg 1-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Edo State capital, last Saturday.
Governor Obaseki led sports lovers in the state and other top government functionaries to bid the team farewell today ahead of their departure from the Benin Airport as they travelled to Algeria for the match.
“I am sure you are prepared for the Algerian journey. I know that the team knows what to do and I am sure you will play better there than in Benin City because you were anxious about the home crowd,” he said.
“You have nothing to lose in this encounter but everything to gain. They are old men, and I know they don’t have stamina. I am here to see you, motivate you, and ensure you are in good spirits.”
The governor urged them to stick to the plans of head coach Monday Odigie, which had helped the team remain unbeaten throughout the abridged season of the Nigeria Premier Football League last term.
“Follow the instructions of your coach. You know you have not lost any matches this season. I know you will not lose this one, good luck. Something is waiting for you when you return from Algeria. Just put in your best and make us all proud,” Obaseki added.
Bendel Insurance will proceed to the next round of the continental competition if they avoid defeat in Algeria.
