Burna Boy releases seventh studio album ‘I Told Them’

Grammy award winner and renowned Afrobeats artiste, Damini Ogulu better known as Burna Boy, has unveiled his eagerly anticipated seventh studio album production, I Told Them

Released on Thursday, August 24, the latest masterpiece spans approximately 40 minutes and boasts 15 tracks, each offering a unique glimpse into the African Giant hit maker’s musical evolution. The album features a star-studded lineup of guest appearances, including collaborations with GZA, RZA, 21 Savage, Dave, Seyi Vibez, J. Cole, and Byron Messia.

Received with widespread acclaim, the project has already garnered significant attention for its rich blend of musical influences and Burna Boy’s signature storytelling style, with many fans praising his ability to evolve and innovate while staying true to his roots.

One of the standout tracks, Sittin on Top of the World, features 21 Savage and showcases Burna Boy’s ability to merge different musical styles seamlessly. Another highlight is 12 Jewels, which features RZA, offering listeners a fusion of Afrobeats and hip-hop.

Sharing insights into the album’s creation, Burna Boy emphasized the importance of expressing genuine feelings and experiences, stating that the album offers a side of him that the public rarely sees. He further elaborated on the album’s essence, highlighting its blend of musical influences and the distinct brand of storytelling that elevates the entire project.

In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the music powerhouse said that he gravitated toward J. Cole following their joint performance at the rapper’s Dreamville Fest earlier this year.

His words: “The truth is often hidden, but when you come across it and you are a person of truth yourself; you can’t help but recognize it. You know what I mean? That’s really the story of me and J Cole. It’s like, I recognize it.”

In another interview with Speedy on Complex’s 360, the multiple award winning artiste, said the new album is merely the first part of a larger series. However, he wouldn’t get into further details.

Taking memory lane from his childhood, first song, Jump, he said, “I haven’t even told anyone this, you know too much. Where did you get that from? Did you speak to my mom or something? What else do you know? Where are you getting all this info from?” he queried Speedy.

On what informed the choice of the album title, Burna said, “I was scrolling on Twitter page one and trying to see my first ever post and they just sent me down to everything I ever said. My world, it’s crazy; like I really did say all these and all that is happening now, that kind of made me name the album I Told Them.”

In addition, the album release is accompanied by a special edition magazine. This collector’s item provides fans with a deeper dive into I Told Them creation process. It includes exclusive content such as a conversation between Burna Boy and RZA, articles penned by his grandfather, Benson Idonije, who was former manager of the Afrobeat progenitor, the legendary Fela Kuti, and behind-the-scenes photos from the album’s production.

As the music world continues to buzz about “I Told Them,” it’s clear that Burna Boy’s influence and impact on the global music scene remain unparalleled.
