VICTOR Osimhen was on the score sheet again tonight as Napoli defeated Sassuolo 2-0 in their Serie A clash at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The Nigeria international converted a penalty in the first half to steer the champions to their second straight win of the new season.
It was the 100th goal in the 24-year-old’s club career and his 62nd in 103 appearances for Napoli. Previously, he scored 18 for Lille in 38 appearances and 20 for Charleroi in 36 games.
Giovanni Di Lorenzo netted in the second half to make sure of the points and take Napoli to second in the standings, level on six points with leaders AC Milan.
The first goal came after Napoli were awarded a penalty following a VAR review, as Matteo Politano was brought down.
Osimhen, who was Serie A top scorer last season with 26 goals, scored from the spot in the 17th minute for his third goal of the new campaign, following his brace in last week’s 3-1 win at Frosinone.
The prolific Super Eagles striker went close on other occasions to add to his goal, his header shaving the upright moments after the restart and another fine header getting acrobatically tipped over by Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.
A generous Osimhen let Raspadori take the spot kick after Napoli were awarded a penalty in the 60th minute, but the Italy striker completely miskicked, clipping the crossbar.
Di Lorenzo finally settled it for Napoli four minutes later with the second goal.
