APC names Wike, others in campaign councils for Bayelsa, Kogi, Imo gov polls

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) today named Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to the party’s campaign committee for the Bayelsa governorship election.

Nigeria’s ruling party nominated the former governor of Rivers State when setting up campaign committees for the Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo governorship elections which will be taking place later this year.

“The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), H. E. Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, in consultation with the National Working Committee (NWC), has approved the composition of the Bayelsa State National Gubernatorial Campaign Council with the primary purpose of leading the Gubernatorial Campaign in Bayelsa State and ensuring the triumph of our great Party at the November 11, 2023 Governorship election,” the APC said in a circular.

Wike, who continued to work as a member of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the run-up to the February presidential election, was recently sworn in as a minister by President Bola Tinubu.

The APC also named Gombe Governor Inuwa Yahaya as chairman of the party’s Bayelsa governorship campaign council, alongside Defence Minister Abubakar Badaru, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume.

The council is co-chaired by three governors: Lagos’ Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Niger State’s Governor Umar Bago, and Kaduna State’s Governor Uba Sani while Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun will lead the 135-member Kogi Governorship campaign council.

The APC chose Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu as head of the council for the Imo election while the co-chairmen are Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
