ABIA: Govt to invest FG’s N2b palliative on transportation

THE Abia State Government has stated that the N2 billion subsidy palliative got from the Federal Government will be invested on transportation.

Abia’s Information and Culture Commissioner, Okey Kanu, made the announcement during a news conference following yesterday’s State Executive Council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

According to him, the state government will implement its palliatives when the federal government has finished.

In support of his claim, Rev. Father Christian Anokwuru, Special Adviser to the Governor on Policies and Interventions, stated that the Federal Government provided N16,800 in rice bags.

He revealed that each ward would receive 90 bags, and that 55 bags had already been distributed to each of the 184 wards, with the remaining 35 bags arriving today.

Away from the palliatives, Prince Kanu and his health counterpart, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, announced that the three general hospitals under renovation had been completed and would be commissioned shortly, and that medical doctors had been sent to Ugwunagbo and Obehie general hospitals.

They also stated that practically every test will be performed at the Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostics Centre, and that the current administration’s free medical services would be extended until December. They stated that the enumeration of retirees for their free health insurance program is nearly complete.

According to Prince Kanu, who indicated that the administration has not celebrated its 100th day in office, Governor Otti’s administration has declared a state of emergency in waste management, health, road infrastructure, and education, among other areas.

In that sense, he stated that much has been accomplished thus far, including security and public service reform. He stated that five roads in Aba, including Umuimo, Emelogu, Jubilee, Cemetery, Shallom, and Obehie, are due for commissioning.
