NEW call-ups Victor Boniface and Gift Orban were among the first set of players to arrive in the Super Eagles camp in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.
The two strikers were part of the eight players in camp as at this morning for the match scheduled for the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday.
Also in camp are goalkeepers Francis Uzoho and Adebayo Adeleye, defenders Tyrone Ebuehi, Jordan Torunarigha and Bruno Onyemachi as well as midfielder Raphael Onyedika.
Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro invited 23 players for the encounter, with several of them looking to make their debuts ahead of the AFCON.
Boniface and Orban have carried their impressive form from last season to the new campaign and could no longer be ignored by Peseiro, who has the perfect opportunity to assess them as the Super Eagles have already qualified for the tournament billed for Cote d’Ivoire in January and February next year.
Having secured a €20.5 million move to Bayer Leverkusen from Belgium’s Union St Gilloise in August, 22-year-old Boniface has been in red-hot form, registering four goals and two assists in his first three German Bundesliga appearances.
Orban, 21, has also been in equally fine form at Belgian side Gent and has scored six goals in nine Jupiler Pro League and UEFA Europa Conference League games this season.
Torunarigha, who was born in Germany to a Nigerian father, is also a first timer having switched allegiance from Germany after playing up to Olympics level for the European country.
The 26-year-old defender’s father Ojokojo is a former footballer who played at professional level in Germany.
The Super Eagles lead their qualifying group with 12 points from five matches and need a draw on Sunday to win the group.
