TWO persons were killed and eight others injured in a lone crash involving a Toyota Hiace with the license plate GAS 937 XA near Christopher University on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, said in a statement made available to press that the lone crash was caused by wrongful overtaking and excessive speed.
The statement read, “FRSC operatives attached to the Mowe Unit Command in conjunction with TRACE carried out a rescue operation on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Christopher University.
“The crash occurred around 11.30am of Tuesday involving a vehicle with number plate GAS937XA, a Toyota Hiace. A total of 10 persons were involved which comprised seven male adults and three female adults.
“Eight persons including six male adults and two female adults were injured, while two persons, one male adult and one female adult, were recorded dead from the crash.
“The incident was a lone crash and the suspected cause of the fatal crash was wrongful overtaking on the part of the Toyota driver who rammed into a station vehicle, coupled with excessive speed.”
Speaking on the incidence the Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC, Anthony Uga, cautioned motorists against excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
