THE All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and former governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has been recognized as the rightful winner of the Plateau South senatorial district by the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, which is based in Jos, Plateau State.
Justice Mahmoud Tukur, the panel’s chairman, ruled that Napoleon Bali of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wasted his votes in the election of February 25 because he was improperly nominated.
According to the unanimous ruling today, the PDP did not have a legal structure in the state at the time of the nomination.
On the other grounds of over-voting and non-compliance with the electoral laws, the panel ruled that the petitioners could not prove the allegations.
Similarly, the PDP lost the Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency seat to Labour Party (LP) candidate Dalyop Chollom.
The tribunal determined that because the PDP lacked a legal structure in the state at the time of Peter Gyenden’s candidacy, his nomination was invalid.
