VICTOR Osimhen shrugged off his problems with Napoli tonight by scoring one of the goals in their 4-1 Serie A victory over Udinese, while Alex Iwobi netted his first goal for Fulham in their 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Norwich City.
Super Eagles striker Osimhen has had a torrid 24 hours with his own club mocking him in a distasteful TikTok video and his agent threatening to take legal action against the Italian champions.
However, he was unperturbed tonight as he took his place in the starting line-up and produced a composed finish in the 39th minute to make it 2-0, 20 minutes after Piotr Zielinski had opened the scoring from the penalty spot.
Osimhen was on for 63 minutes before making way for Giovanni Simeone and the Nigeria international has now scored four goals in six Series A appearances this season despite not netting in three straight games.
Nigerian forward Isaac Success was a second half substitute for Udinese, who also had Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye on the bench.
In England, Osimhen’s Super Eagles teammate Iwobi struck in the 72nd minute of his first Fulham start as they defeated second-tier Norwich City 2-1 to advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
This is his third appearance for Fulham since joining them from Everton on transfer deadline day, as he came off the bench in the previous two games in the Premier League.
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey also started the match for Fulham and was on for 83 minutes.
In another Carabao Cup fixture tonight, Liverpool came from behind to beat Leicester City 3-1 at Anfield, with the visitors having Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho in the starting line-up and Wilfred Ndidi coming on in the second half.
Arsenal won 1-0 at Brentford, with Roses Nelson settling the contest with an early goal, while Nicolas Jackson struck Chelsea’s first and only goal in all competitions this month as they defeated Brighton 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester City, who won six of the last 10 Carabao Cup trophies, were knocked out tonight by last season’s losing finalists Newcastle United, who won 1-0 through Alexander Isak’s 53rd minute goal.
In other Carabao Cup clashes tonight, Everton beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park, Bournemouth eased past Stoke City 2-0 and Blackburn Rovers thrashed Cardiff City 5-2.
