Oparanozie ‘forgives’ Onana after Man United keeper’s penalty heroics

SUPER Falcons star Desire Oparanozie was impressed so much by Andre Onana’s performance last night that she decided to ‘forgive’ the Manchester United goalkeeper.

Cameroon international Onana posted his best performance since joining the Red Devils in the summer, pulling off smart saves and stopping a penalty in added time of the UEFA Champions League group stage clash against FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford.

Onana’s save was crucial as it helped earn United a 1-0 victory, their first three points in the competition after a 4-3 defeat at Bayern Munich and a stunning 3-2 home loss to Galatasaray.

The 27-year-old has underperformed since his €52.5m move from Inter in August, commiting several errors and letting in 20 goals in 13 matches.

However, he turned from villain to hero last night with the last-gasp penalty, and Oparanozie was one of the millions of Manchester United fans who praised the Indomitable Lions goalkeeper.

“Onana all your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more. #GGMU #UEFAChampionsLeague,” Oparanozie posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Oparanozie revealed in her reply to one of her followers that she has supported Manchester United for years, as she became a fan as a child after watching Cristiano Ronaldo star for the club.

The former Nigeria international, who announced her retirement from football recently at only 29 years of age due to injuries, is well known in Onana’s Cameroon although the football fans there are not very fond of her.

It was Oparanozie who scored the only goal in the 2016 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Yaounde, Cameroon as the Super Falcons defeated the Indomitable Lionesses to win the continental title.

The powerful striker won four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles with the Super Falcons and attended four FIFA Women’s World Cups, including the 2023 edition in Australia and New Zealand.

She played professional football in Nigeria, Turkey, Russia, Germany, France and China before calling it quits at a young age due to a succession of injuries.
