THE appointment of the new Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, has been overturned by the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso, alleging the illegality of the selection procedure.
The court ruled that the Oyo State Government must conduct a new selection procedure to appoint a new king.
The ruling followed a petition filed by one of the contestants, Kabir Laoye, who claimed that Olaoye was not eligible to be selected as Soun and that his appointment was illegal.
The court agreed with Laoye and decided that Olaoye’s appointment was null and void.
While delivering his decision, Justice Adedokun said that Oba Laoye’s appointment was illegal.
In addition, Justice Adedokun dismissed three petitions presented to him by one of the accusers, Prince Taofiq Laoye.
The petitions also call into question the new Soun’s appointment.
While the process of selecting a new Soun was underway, Kabir Laoye, one of the contestants who had been sued for contending Soun’s position, had appealed that Ghandi Olaoye was not allowed to take Soun’s position.
Recall that the Oyo State Government had announced Pastor Ghandi Olaoye as the next Soun and crowned him king on September 8, 2023.
