KALIDOU Koulibaly is reportedly playing a key role in nudging Victor Osimhen towards a switch from Napoli to Chelsea.
The two players were teammates at Napoli, with Koulibaly the side’s captain before leaving for Chelsea in July 2022.
Although, the Senegal defender is now in Saudi Arabia with Al Hilal after leaving Chelsea in the summer, he is still reportedly doing his former club a favour.
According to The Telegraph today, Osimhen has emerged as big-spending Chelsea’s top target and his friend Koulibaly is linking up the Super Eagles striker and the struggling Premier League club.
Osimhen, last season’s Serie A top scorer with 26 goals as he inspired Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years, is one of the most sought-after players in the world.
He is yet to sign an extension to his current contract, which expires in 2025, and Napoli could let him go for a hefty fee.
The Telegraph claimed that Chelsea are willing to pay over £100m for Osimhen, and could even make an attempt in January.
It is believed that 32-year-old Koulibaly, who spent eight years at Napoli and who is a close friend of Osimhen’s, is connecting the Nigeria international and Chelsea, and could ease negotiations between the striker and the Premier League side.
Osimhen could become the most expensive signing in Premier League history, surpassing Enzo Fernandez who moved to Stamford Bridge for £106m in January.
