THE Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched a trader money initiative to support the state’s market men and women.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made the statement during the inauguration of the food Agro-hub in Lagos’ Mushin Idi-Oro area, saying 15,000 traders will each receive 50,000 naira to support their businesses.
He stated that the trader money initiative is part of his pledge to the state’s traders that it will begin before the end of 2023.
According to him, 200 traders will be chosen from each local government area in the state to ensure that the 750 million naira is distributed to all traders, irrespective of their location.
Sanwo-Olu further stated that the mid-level Agro-hub built in Mushin Idi-Oro Local Government Area will be replicated across the state’s five divisions for the benefit of the people.
The modern market place is erected on 6,400 square meters of land, with enough parking (3,017 square meters) to accommodate trailers and cars, as well as centralized wet and dry storage rooms for bulk purchases.
Abisola Olusanya, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, stated that the implementation of this new method of food delivery in Lagos will allow for the tracking and resolution of issues such as post-harvest losses, inflation, carbon footprint, and traffic congestion.
She also stated that this demonstrates the state government’s determination to achieve the food systems Agenda in line with Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
