NURSES in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, are protesting the new verification certification guidelines introduced by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
The nurses marched to the offices of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives in Abuja to protest what they saw as a violation of their rights and an attempt to prevent them from seeking better employment prospects.
The Council’s Registrar, Faruk Abubakar, addressed the protesters and told the nurses that their issues would be addressed as quickly as possible.
On February 7, 2024, the Council released a circular updating the procedures for requesting verification of credentials for nurses and midwives.
The Council is mandated by law to govern the standards of nursing and midwifery education and practice in Nigeria, as well as to review such standards regularly to suit society’s changing health requirements.
