ARSENAL manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his side after last night’s 6-0 demolition of Sheffield United in their one-sided English Premier League clash at Bramall Lane.
Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli Declan Rice and Ben White struck for the Gunners as they thrashed bottom side Sheffield United last night.
With that big win, Arsenal became the first team in English Football League history to win three consecutive away games by five goals or more.
Remarkably, in those three games (6-0 at West Ham, 5-0 at Burnley and 6-0 at Sheffield United) the Gunners did not concede a single goal.
Arteta was understandably pleased as Arsenal moved to within two points of leaders Liverpool but the Spaniard still challenged his players to maintain the high levels they have been setting in recent weeks.
Arsenal have now scored 31 goals, conceded just three and won seven consecutive Premier League goals in 2024.
“I’m really happy,” Arteta said during his post-match interview. “Obviously coming to this ground is always very difficult. And the team, again, showed a high level of performance – of desire, of quality, and I’m really pleased, obviously.
“The way we started, having to play here on a Monday night, but the team showed again how much they want it, the quality we have, the determination to continue to go.”
When asked if he could afford to relax and enjoy what he was watching once his side went 3-0 up early on, Arteta replied: “Not really, because you want to do better, do more and keep demanding them to keep the standards high and continue to play and evolve.
“We train every day with that mentality, with that desire, and if they can do it, why not consistently? That is something that we have to show.”
Arteta added he was delighted to see the return of Fabio Vieira and Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey, after their respective injury lay-offs.
“I’m happy that we have some players back as well. To see Fabio after that many months to see Thomas after four months, they are good signs from the team.”
Arsenal, who finished second last season, are in a three-horse race with Liverpool and champions Manchester City as the Gunners chase their first Premier League title since 2004.
