Osimhen doubtful for Napoli’s trip to Inter Milan after missing training

VICTOR Osimhen is a major doubt for Napoli as they head to Inter Milan tomorrow after the Super Eagles striker sat out two training sessions.

The Nigeria international missed training for two days due to a muscular issue and was only present along with his teammates for part of today’s session, spending the rest of the time working separately with staff, Football Italia has reported.

The 25-year-old, who was the top scorer in Serie A last season with 26 goals as Napoli won their first Scudetto in 33 years, has however been named in Francesco Calzona’s squad for the trip to Milan, even as he remains a huge doubt to start.

If Osimhen is not given the all-clear by the Napoli medical staff, Giovanni Simeone is likely to be preferred as his replacement over Giacomo Raspadori.

Despite a campaign disrupted by injuries and the Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen has still produced impressive numbers.

The Nigeria striker has registered 11 goals and three assists in 17 Serie A appearances, and Napoli feel incomplete without him.

In a positive development for Napoli though, Cameroon midfielder Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa was only suffering from fatigue after the UEFA Champions League defeat at Barcelona, and should be ready to play against Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
